Memories don't leave even when a person does....

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

Losing someone you love, even the mere thought might seem so terrifying especially when you think of someone that means so much to you. there's no denying the devastation that comes with losing a person, and when sometimes its impact is large enough to entirely shift your world, the after effects of losing someone also creeps into our lives in small and sometimes even unnoticable ways.

you let yourself be destroyed and haunted by the what-ifs, bit by bit, inch by inch, day by day. when someone so close to your heart, someone who came so close to understanding your mind leaves, what hurts is the memories that stay along. and it takes so much more courage than before to let another person in, to lower down the walls that guard your heart, to allow yourself to feel something nearly as magical again. you start to feel like there's this empty hole in your being where that one person was supposed to be.

the madness of the lost moments of tomorrow swallows you, consumes you, and gulps into your emotions. but come to think of it, we can't really choose how long a person stays in our lives. we can't hold onto someone, no matter how hard we try, but we can hold onto the memories they left behind, even if in the beginning they hurt.

because maybe forever is real indeed, but sometimes to get that, you have to say goodbye.

because maybe it's not the time you spend with a person that stays that long, but the time lapse of the sound of their voice when you made them laugh on midnight calls.

because maybe sometimes it's okay to let yourself be haunted by a dead love,

if the ghosts of a rotten amour are the only ones that feel like home.
