Break The Convention!

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood And I, I took the one less travelled by and it made all the difference”

-Robert Frost

As Benjamin Franklin rightly said, “Change is the only constant in life.” Over the past several centuries, the human race has constantly undergone changes and evolutions. Due to the boon of science and technology that came over the course of time, we are living our lives with utmost comfort. Still somewhat I feel that we haven’t really evolved to our full potential. Despite our unremitting efforts to keep up with the pace of time, we have failed to evolve the most important aspect of life- our cognition. Each human being perceives things differently and each perception is important. However, it is lamentable that our society has become highly resistant to new perceptions. Our society is not yet ready to accept the fact that opinions different from theirs also exist. People tend to hide their interests, opinions and sexualities due to the fear of being judged and ridiculed. People shy away from expressing themselves because of the reason that someone else might not like it. The people who choose to speak for acceptance and acknowledgement are often considered to be an outcast and are termed as a misfit to the societal standards. They are not allowed to speak their mind out and are forced to be hidden behind the barricades of conventions.

We need to first acknowledge the fact that no individual has the right to exert control over another individual in any way. Enforcing one’s thoughts and opinions on others is a threat to the person’s individuality. Everybody has the complete autonomy to choose what is best for themselves. They have the right to choose their careers, choose their partners, choose their leaders and they deserve to be embraced with open arms.

A wise man once said, “Convention is like a shell to the chick, a protection till he is strong enough to break it through.” We need to accelerate a little to break the barriers of conventions and make this world a better place for everybody to live in. We need to broaden our mind sets and roll out the red carpet for everyone irrespective of their race, gender, or preferences.

“We’ve got freedom, we’ve got rights but the problem is yet not solved.

We all have got developed brains the thoughts inside are yet to evolve.

We are doing nothing wrong so keep your heads high, There is absolutely no harm in taking the path which is ‘less travelled-by’.”
