Have you ever felt unworthy, as if no matter what you did, you’d never be good enough? Do you unintentionally sabotage your self – esteem with negative thoughts? You’re not alone. What you’re experiencing right now is something that everyone has experienced at some point in their lives. We doubt ourselves and sometimes we actually end up believing that we’re not worthy or undeserving. We are under so much stress and pressure in today’s society. In a world where everyone’s accomplishments are on full display, it is easy to feel intimidated and inadequate. As a result, we set unrealistic goals and expectations for ourselves. We can be extremely harsh and unforgiving towards ourselves. Here, are 7 things to remember whenever you feel like you’re not good enough.
1.You Deserve To Be Loved & Cared For
There is a famous quote – “we accept the love we think we deserve.” Now, remember these words next time you’re indulging in self – doubt. We’re all unhappy and annoyed with ourselves at times. But no matter how negatively we may feel about ourselves, we must never stop accepting the love and kindness we receive from others. We feel like we don’t deserve this love, at the time we need it the most. We must realise and accept our self – worth.
2. Your Worst Traits & Mistakes Don’t Define You
We struggle throughout our lives to achieve self-love, self-acceptance, and compassion toward ourselves. When you're so aware of your flaws and imperfections, loving yourself can be difficult. You must constantly remind yourself that your flaws and mistakes do not define you. We must be kind to ourselves and celebrate our positive qualities if we are to grow. Remember that you have more good than bad in you, even on your worst days, and that should be enough.
3. Your Thoughts Aren’t Your Reality
We can be our own worst enemy in many ways. Especially when we talk down to ourselves, allowing our fears and insecurities to take over. From time to time, we all have cruel and discouraging thoughts. As a matter of fact, we must keep in mind that they are only thoughts. You have complete control over how you deal with your thoughts. They are not needed to define our reality or modify our perceptions of ourselves. Let us not be impulsive in accepting whatever thoughts our brain chemistry creates.
4. Sometimes All That Matters Is The Here & Now
We are quite often stuck in the past and unable to move forward. Some people allow their fear of the future to keep them from appreciating the present. To be honest, sometimes all that matters is the present moment. Being more aware of the present moment brings a sense of comfort. Which is exactly what we need at times. The kind we don't get from constantly worrying about the past or the future.
5. The Grass Isn’t Always Greener On The Other Side
It's difficult to argue with logic that says comparison is the root of all unhappiness. There will always be someone out there who has more. Perhaps more money, nicer clothes, and even more happiness. We lose sight of, and even ignore, all of the good and wonderful things we have in our lives and in ourselves as a result of constant comparison. We convince ourselves that we are undeserving, and as a result, we become increasingly unhappy. Knowing that the people you compare yourself to are also people who compare themselves is one thing that may help you. They might even be envious of something you have. What you have to try to do, is break this toxic chain of comparison.
6. You Are Enough
It's good to be a work in progress because it means you're getting better. We are only improving if we are constantly progressing. There is no rule that says you have to have it all figured out; instead, we should keep learning and improving, and appreciating the small steps forward we make every day.
7. Perfection Is A Myth
Although you still have a long way to go, realize how far you've already come. Take pride in your accomplishments and make the most of them. Everything meaningful in life takes time. We are so used to our features that we are clueless of our own beauty. There is no such thing as perfection. For us, society has set unattainable goals. We are not compelled to follow them. The only standards we have to meet are those we set for ourselves.
8. You Are Worthy & You Matter
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we must remember that we are deserving of our respect. You are the only version of you in the universe who has ever existed. Have you ever wished you were someone who had everything? The truth is that what appears to be true on the surface is not always accurate. You're comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else's highlight reel. Trying to be someone else means wasting your capability as a person. Nobody has your personality, energy, or vibe like you. Allow yourself to be sacred, unsure, and unapologetically yourself. When you love and believe in yourself, you'll be amazed at how far you can go.
